Georgia Gwinnett College Head Tennis Coach
Tom Rees has announced the additions of assistant coaches
Jody Beasley and
Isid Hernandez to round out his coaching staff for the upcoming 2026 spring campaign.
Beasley brings experience as a coach at Harp Performance Tennis in Cumming, Georgia, where he shapes high-performance player identity, strengths and weaknesses. He then tailors practice routines and provides private instruction to improve players' skills. Beasley was an accomplished junior player in North Carolina and received multiple college tennis scholarship offers. He was a finalist in the 1995 Infiniti men's amateur national doubles tournament during the U.S. Open in Flushing, New York. Later, Beasley has been a nine-time ALTA (Atlanta) doubles city champion, 13-time ALTA city doubles finalist, and five-time Dallas City United States Tennis Association men's and mixed doubles champion.
"Jody has a tremendous tennis mind, great work ethic and general zest for life," said Rees, who is preparing for his inaugural season leading the nationally ranked Grizzlies. "He's been involved with tennis at a high level for the best part of 30 years and his experiences outside of the tennis world will only add to the unique perspective he brings to the GGC program. I am excited to work alongside him as we continue to develop champions on the court and in life."
Beasley's son, Jake, most recently played collegiate tennis at the University of South Carolina and held the program's career record for doubles wins. Jake is now an assistant coach for the Gamecock men's NCAA Division I program.
"I would like to thank
Dr. Ian Potter and Coach
Tom Rees for their confidence in me, and I am honored to become the assistant coach for men's and women's tennis at Georgia Gwinnett College. I appreciate the history GGC athletics, including its many tennis championships, and the family culture within the GGC tennis program," said Beasley.
Meanwhile, Hernandez is moving to coaching for the Grizzlies after helping the program win a NAIA national team championship as a player last spring. She posted a 13-1 singles record, including an 8-0 mark on the No. 5 court, during the 2025 season. Hernandez then went 12-2 in doubles action last season, highlighted by nine triumphs on the No. 1 court.
Hernandez previously played at Division I University of the Incarnate Word University (Texas) and Cowley College (Kansas), a junior college. Hernandez completed her undergraduate degree from GGC in December 2025.
"I signed Isid to play at Incarnate Word a few years ago. While I never got to coach her there, I am delighted that the stars have aligned for us to work together at GGC. She is a multiple-time national champion and a valued member of the Grizzly family, and I have no doubt she will continue to positively impact the lives of all the players on our team," said Rees.
The Georgia Gwinnett College men's and women's tennis teams were ranked No. 2 in the 2026 NAIA Preseason Top 25 poll. The women's tennis program captured its ninth straight national team championship last spring, while men's tennis took runner-up honors in 2025. Both programs have combined to win 20 NAIA national team titles.
GGC is scheduled to open the 2026 spring season with a match at NCAA Division II Lander University on Thursday, January 22, in Greenwood, South Carolina.
