No. 2 Women's Tennis Aces NCAA DII North Georgia 9-0

The NAIA's No. 2-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College women's tennis earned a commanding 9-0 home victory over NCAA Division II University of North Georgia Thursday afternoon at the GGC Tennis Facility. The victory capped consecutive days when the team swept a pair of opponents.

"We are finally at full strength and when that happens we're a really dangerous team," said Head Coach Chase Hodges, whose team was matched up against North Georgia for the first time. "Hopefully, this is a match that we can do annually with North Georgia."

After winning the first two doubles matches, the Grizzlies (13-2) took a 3-0 lead into singles as the tandem of junior Gabrielle Robinson and sophomore Maria Prados Cid rallied from a 6-5 deficit to win a tiebreaker on the No. 3 doubles court.

"Anytime you are up 2-0, you have that swing match where it could be 2-1 or 3-0 on the scoreboard. Gabrielle and Maria continued to battle and got us a point to take an early 3-0 lead heading into singles," said Hodges.

Sophomore Emerald Able and freshman Madeline Bosnjak did not drop a game at the top of doubles lineup. Junior Henar Munoz and sophomore Margarida Abreu picked up an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles.

"Emerald and Madeline are aggressive and good doubles players," stated Hodges.

GGC won all six singles matches in straight sets. Prados Cid gave the Grizzlies a 4-0 lead after winning all 12 games on the No. 4 court. Munoz earned the team's fifth point to clinch the victory with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph at No. 3 singles.

Then, Robinson won 12 of 13 games at No. 5 singles and Abreu registered a 7-5, 6-1 straight-set victory on the No. 6 court. Able and Bosnjak rounded out the winners at the top of the singles lineup.

"At this moment the team has a good vibe," Bosnjak said. "We had more energy in doubles than what we did yesterday (a 9-0 victory against NAIA No. 14 Brenau University). There were a lot of close games in singles that I was able to pull out today. Shot selection was a key factor in winning that match."
