The No. 2-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College women's tennis started building momentum for postseason play with a 9-0 road triumph against No. 14-ranked Brenau University Wednesday afternoon.
The Grizzlies (12-2) were playing for the first time since March 24 when they dropped a hard-fought 5-4 match to Keiser University (Fla.). That setback resulted in Keiser taking over the top spot in the NAIA national poll.
GGC got off to a fast start in Wednesday's match by winning on all three doubles courts. Junior Henar Munoz and sophomore Margarida Abreu earned an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles for the first point of the match. Then, sophomore Emerald Able and freshman Madeline Bosnjak picked up an 8-5 win on the No. 1 court. That was followed by junior Gabrielle Robinson and sophomore Maria Prados Cid winning eight of 10 games at No. 3 doubles.
The visitors won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Able gave Georgia Gwinnett College a 4-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-0 win at the top of the singles lineup. Munoz clinched the team victory by winning 12 of the 13 games at No. 3 singles. Other winners were Prados Cid, by identical 6-1 set scores on the No. 4 court; Abreu, at No. 6 singles; Bosnjak, at No. 2; and Robinson at No. 4 singles.
