A match featuring two of the top three NAIA women's tennis teams lived up its billing with No. 3-ranked Keiser University edging out No. 1-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College 5-4 Saturday at the GGC Tennis Facility.
The back-and-forth match went down to the last singles match after over four hours of competition.
GGC (11-2) held a 2-1 advantage after doubles with the deciding point coming on the No. 1 court. Sophomore Emerald Able and freshman Madeline Bosnjak picked up a 9-7 victory over the nation's top-ranked doubles team. Sophomores Debora Scurt and Chiara Rebecchi earned an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
Keiser (15-1) took the opening set on four of the six courts. Straight-set wins by the Seahawks at No. 4 and No. 1 singles gave the visitors a 3-2 lead.
Bosnjak squared the match, 3-3, behind a 6-1, 6-4 victory on the No. 3 singles court.
Keiser regained the lead with a three-set win at No. 2 singles, winning 6-4 in the deciding set. Junior Gabrielle Robinson picked up a 6-1, 7-5 victory for GGC at No. 5 singles to tie the contest at four points apiece.
The No. 6 singles match went the distance with Keiser's Emma Henriksen and Rebecchi splitting the first two sets. Rebecchi took the second set 7-5. However, Henriksen got a break of serve and held onto the advantage to win the deciding set 6-4.
