Grizzlies Capture 10th Win in 4-2 Victory over Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.)

Box Score

The Georgia Gwinnett women's soccer team wrapped up its 2016 regular season on Monday afternoon with a 4-2 victory over Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) on the road.  The win increases GGC's streak to three consecutive victories where the Grizzlies have outscored their opponents 15-3.

"We had a lot of trouble in the first few minutes of the match and all the credit goes to Freed-Hardeman for coming out in a formation we weren't anticipating," stated GGC head coach Chris Kouns.  "The formation gave us a lot of difficulties in the first half, but we adjusted well in the second.  We overcame the adversity as a unit and put away the game the way we should have from the start.  I'm very proud of the ladies' effort and another 10-win season."

The first three goals of the contest were scored within the first three minutes of the match, all in a matter of 45 seconds.  Freed-Hardeman's Abigail Morales gave the Lions a 1-0 lead at the 2:09 mark, scoring the match's first goal.  GGC senior forward Nikki LeFevre tied the match at 1-1 just 16 seconds later, scoring her 32nd career goal in a Grizzly uniform.

The Lions (4-10-3) regained the lead, 2-1, just 30 seconds later when Taylor Woods scored FHU's second and final goal of the match.

While the Lions held the 2-1 advantage heading into the intermission, Georgia Gwinnett (10-7-1) tied the match in the 48th minute when LeFevre scored her second goal of the evening, bringing her GGC career goals total to 33.

In the 57th minute, GGC took its first lead, 3-2, of the match when Tiffany Rodriguez lifted a shot to the lower right-hand corner of the net.

The Grizzlies struck again in the 75th minute to increase their advantage to 4-2, sealing the victory.  Junior striker Dominique Fletcher squeezed between two Freed-Hardeman defenders to receive a touch pass from Bristol Countess, ripping the through ball into the back of the net.

With the victory, the Grizzlies have now had 10 or more wins in all five of the program's seasons of play.  Notably, Coach Kouns is now one win away from his 125th career victory as a head coach, boasting a 124-93-20 all-time record.

The Grizzlies now await this week's announcement of the Association of Independent Institutions' women's soccer tournament field.  GGC is projected to be the top-seed in this year's tournament being held at the Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Denver, Co.
