Grizzlies Stay Perfect at Home

Box Score

LAWRENCEVILLE – For the third time this season, the Georgia Gwinnett women's soccer team was locked in a 1-1 tie with an in-state foe, and once again, the Grizzlies were able to produce some late-game magic as Tiffany Rodriguez found the back of the net in the 85th minute to secure a 2-1 victory over visiting Brenau on Monday evening at Grizzly Soccer Complex.

With the win, GGC moved to a perfect 7-0 at home this season, including a 3-0 record vs. Georgia opponents. All three victories were decided in 2-1 fashion. Overall, the Grizzlies are now 7-5-1 on the year, and Brenau dropped to 6-7.

There was no shortage of chances for the Green and Gray on the night, but it would be an opening goal from the Tigers that pushed the Grizzly offense into full gear. Brenau's Tiffany Raygor struck in the 55th minute before Lina Blomqvist put an exclamation point on a great sequence from Bristol Countess and Lauren Moss to even the affair less than three minutes later.

"Lauren Moss and Nicole Rodriguez are the future of what our midfield is going to be," GGC head coach Chris Kouns said. "They're young and still learning, but you can see at times with the way that they work together, that they're going to be pretty good. I really like the way they took care of business tonight."

Tiffany Rodriguez, who was unable to convert on two golden opportunities in the first half, finally broke through for the winner from a tight angle on the right side with just under six minutes remaining in the match.

"Tiffany is a great sparkplug," Kouns said. "She got in a couple times there in the first half, and the goalkeeper made just a brilliant save on the first one. Full credit to her on that, but Tiffany just didn't stop attacking. We knew that if she kept doing that, things would eventually go our way."

GGC finished the night with 20 shots, including nine on frame, while Brenau registered eight and four, respectively.

The Grizzlies, who are currently riding a school-record 11-match home winning streak, will return to action on Saturday at 7 p.m. It will be GGC's second-ever Homecoming, and festivities at Grizzly Soccer Complex will begin at 3:30 and run all the way up to kickoff.
