The Georgia Gwinnett women's soccer team earned its first victory of the young season with a three-goal second half outburst to power past USC Beaufort on Saturday in Bluffton, S.C., 3-0.
The Grizzlies used scores from senior Andreah Creevey, freshman Dominique Fletcher and freshman Bristol Countess over a 20-minute span to pull away from the Sand Sharks.
Georgia Gwinnett (1-1) piled up a 13-5 shot advantage in handing USCB (1-1) its first loss.
"We played an outstanding first half and while each team earned a few chances it was probably fitting to go 0-0 into halftime," said Grizzlies head coach Domenic Martelli. "Then, we did a few things to adjust in the second half and we had a lot of different players step up. We really worked to produce some quality opportunities and had a couple of very nice finishes."
Alex Hays made three saves in goal for GGC, with two coming in the scoreless first half.
After an accumulation of yellow cards, the Grizzlies played with just 10 players over the final 35 minutes, but it would not affect the GGC attack.
In the 66th minute, Creevey opened the scoring, converting on a feed from Amy Morland.
Under 10 minutes later, Fletcher tallied her first goal as a Grizzly teaming up with Nikki LeFevre to make it 2-0.
Countess would make it 3-0 in the 87th minute, capping the scoring with her first career goal.
"We came out well and wore them down throughout the second half," added Martelli. "We now have to get ready to face another very talented, smart, athletic team on Monday in SCAD Savannah."
The Grizzlies will battle the Bees on Monday at 1 p.m. on SCAD's home field in Hardeeville, S.C. The two teams have traded one goal wins over the last two years.
