Junior Marlee Morales homered and drove in four runs Saturday as the Georgia Gwinnett softball team earned a doubleheader split at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tenn.
The Grizzlies belted 14 hits in the opener in an 11-6 win, then dropped a tight 4-3 decision in game two.
Ashley Beyke earned her 13th win of the year on the mound while Brittany Bruns, Alycia Fields and Ashleigh Simmons each drove in a pair of runs for GGC (15-21).
In game one, Morales and Simmons each had a pair of doubles to steer GGC to a 9-0 lead.
The Red Hawks (19-19) pushed across six runs in the bottom of the fifth, but GGC used four MMC errors and added scores in the sixth and seventh to secure the win.
The 11 runs are the second-most the Grizzlies have totaled this season.
In the second game, GGC scored in the top of the first for an early lead.
The Red Hawks scored three runs through three innings before GGC would come back to tie it in the fifth.
The Grizzlies had 10 hits in the game, but MMC pushed across the game’s winning run in the bottom of the seventh. GGC is now 8-12 on the road this season against a stiff schedule.
Georgia Gwinnett returns to the diamond Sunday, facing #9 Reinhardt (34-3) for the second time this season in Waleska, Ga. The doubleheader is set to start at 2 p.m.
