The Georgia Gwinnett softball team used three hits from Halley Ingram to pick up its 10th win of the year in a doubleheader split Tuesday evening at Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C.
The Grizzlies suffered a 9-1 defeat in five innings before striking back with a 10-2 run-rule victory over the Warriors in game two.
Ingram and Jordyn Fones each drove in two runs for GGC.
Georgia Gwinnett (10-17) managed only two hits and a score from Felicia Shelton in game one as SWU (18-12) scored all nine runs in the second inning. Tiffany Bailey tossed 2.2 scoreless innings in relief of Ashley Beyke.
In game two, Beyke (8-8) picked up the complete game win as the GGC bats came alive.
The Grizzlies scored two runs in the first inning and two more in the second before SWU cut it to 4-2.
A sixth-run fifth inning put GGC in control and Beyke held the Warriors scoreless in the bottom of the frame to end the game in five innings.
Eight of the nine batters in the Grizzly lineup had at least one hit in the game while Shelton and Marlee Morales each scored twice.
The win is GGC’s third of the season on the road.
Georgia Gwinnett returns to action a week from Tuesday with a pair of games at Talladega College.
