Softball Bounces Back with Road Wins at Emmanuel

March 16, 2013

Box Score

The Georgia Gwinnett softball team bounced back Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga., taking 7-1 and 11-8 victories for the Grizzlies’ first road wins.

Georgia Gwinnett (5-16) took an early lead in the opener and sailed to the win, then battled back from a four-run deficit in game two to earn the victory. Emmanuel fell to 3-17 with the defeats.

“We showed determination and heart that will continue to define our team,” said Grizzlies head coach Kat Ihlenburg. “We focused on each pitch and each play and our outcome reflects that hard work.

“The whole lineup built off each other with base hits and walks,” Ihlenburg added. “It was a very productive day.”

The Grizzlies return to Lawrenceville with eight home games over the week ahead. The action resumes Tuesday as GGC and Emmanuel meet again. First pitch of the doubleheader at the Collins Hill High School softball complex is set for 3 p.m.
