Family Ties Highlighted on ‘Grizzly Growl’

"The Grizzly Growl Show" takes a look at the family aspect of a coaching family in this week's episode
Fans of Georgia Gwinnett College athletics will get a different insider's perspective of the athletics experience during this week's "The Grizzly Growl Show," produced by the Grizzly Digital Network.

Barbara Giuliano, wife of women's soccer coach Dr. Mike Giuliano, discusses being the spouse of a coach and having to deal with the highs and lows of each sports season.

Soccer has been a big part of the Giuliano family. The sport has taken Mike and Barbara to Tennessee, Illinois and California for successful men's and women's collegiate coaching assignments. A move to Atlanta came to assist Barbara in realizing a career pathway in her field of interest: the prevention of human trafficking.

That brought Mike to GGC in 2017 to lead the women's soccer program. He has brought success with a 46-14-3 record, three Association of Independent Institutions championships and advancing to the Round of 16 in the 2018 NAIA national tournament. The 15 wins achieved during the 2019 season were the second most in program history.

Barbara has been her husband's biggest cheerleader through more than 30 years of coaching. She has attended countless soccer matches to watch Mike coach teams at the college, club or high school level, along with being a nervous parent as the family's children have played a variety of sports.

She will discuss all of this and much more on "The Grizzly Growl Show," hosted by Matt Mahony, athletics video and broadcast coordinator.

This week's episode can be viewed at GGC athletics' YouTube channel. View past shows there as well. Interviews also will be available on the Office of Athletics' Beyond The Glory podcast.

The Grizzly Digital Network is an entirely student-operated production, with staff and interns from GGC's cinema and media arts production program. This new program further expands educational opportunities for GDN staff and showcases the academic program's production facilities, student talent and leadership.
