Dominant semifinal-round performances by juniors MaryLove Edwards and Suryanshi Suryanshi have the Georgia Gwinnett College women's tennis players competing for singles and doubles crowns at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Regional at the GGC Tennis Facility.

That puts them one step closer to qualifying for NAIA individual championships at the ITA Cup later this fall.

DRAWS

Saturday regional victories by Edwards and Suryanshi have made it an all-Grizzly singles final, while the players have combined their skills to earn a spot in the tournament's doubles title match.

Edwards, the tournament's top seed in the singles draw, defeated No. 4 seed Ivet Prat from Tennessee Wesleyan University in straight sets during afternoon action. She won the opening set by a 6-2 score before securing a spot in her first regional singles final with a 6-2 second-set score.

Meanwhile, Suryanshi, the No. 6 seed, was also victorious by straight sets in her singles semifinal match, facing No. 7 Carmine Becoude from SCAD Atlanta. The Grizzly player took the opening set by a 6-4 score before winning all six games in the second set.

The all-GGC singles final is scheduled for Sunday, September 27, at 1 p.m.

Earlier in the day, the Edwards-Suryanshi doubles duo collected a 6-3, 7-5 victory against a TWU team, the No. 2 seed, to claim a spot in the regional final. The GGC team, the No. 3 seed, will face the tournament's top seed from SCAD Atlanta in Sunday's championship match, starting at 9 a.m.

GGC's doubles pairing of junior Maria Clara Zotti and Marta Machado dropped a 6-2, 6-4 semifinal match in the regional's other semifinal match.

They came out with great energy in their doubles match and took that early momentum through the entire match," said Head Coach Tom Rees.
