Georgia Gwinnett College women's tennis players were victorious across seven matches in Thursday's action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Regional, taking place among NAIA competitors this weekend at the GGC Tennis Facility.

The Grizzlies collected four singles wins and had three doubles teams advancing to the quarterfinal round of the fall tournament.

DRAWS

Junior Suryanshi Suryanshi, the No. 6 seed in the singles draw, opened the day with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory against Katelyn Greer from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (Georgia). She will now face ABAC's Denisa Alexie Raducu on Friday, September 25, at 11:45 a.m. in Round of 16 play.

Fellow junior Maria Clara Zotti advanced to the Round of 16 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Nella Kusa from SCAD Atlanta. She will play SCAD Atlanta's Carmine Becoude, the No. 7 seed, in the next round.

Sophomore Marta Machado won all 12 games in her Round of 32 singles match against SCAD Atlanta's Stella De Vera. The Grizzly player advances to play No. 4 seed Ivet Prat from Tennessee Wesleyan University on Friday at 11:45 a.m.

Junior MaryLove Edwards, the tournament's top seed, received an opening-round bye and will play her first match against SCAD Atlanta's Nora Louko on Friday at 11:45 a.m. 

In doubles, the team of senior Mireia Simon Sanchez and sophomore Minami Tan was victorious by an 8-3 score against a squad from Abraham Baldwin. The No. 4 seeded team will play GGC's Machado-Zotti in Friday's quarterfinal round match. Machado-Zotti defeated a team from SCAD Atlanta by an 8-5 score on Thursday.

The Edwards-Suryanshi doubles team, the No. 3 seed, will play their first match of the tournament against a team from Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday.

"It was a really good day as the women went 7-1 on the day. Even the match we lost was a close three-set battle. I am proud of the way the players competed and set the tone for the rest of the tournament," said Head Coach Tom Rees.
