Women’s Tennis Wins Doubles Crown at UNG Invitational

The Grizzlies posted a 9-3 combined record in their first fall action of the 2026 campaign
Junior Maria Clara Zotti joined with sophomore Marta Machado to win a doubles flight on Saturday to highlight the Grizzlies' performance in a weather-shortened University of North Georgia Invitational in Dahlonega, Georgia, that opened the team's fall schedule.

RESULTS

The GGC duo defeated a pair from NCAA Division II Columbus State University (Georgia) by a 7-5 score to win the C flight in the tournament. In their first action for the Grizzlies, Clara Zotti-Machado defeated a pair of Division II opponents and one Division III team during the weekend.

In singles, Machado collected a 6-3, 6-0 straight-set triumph against Sibyelle Braure from Division II's Auburn University at Montgomery (Alabama) in consolation B flight action.

GGC players had a 9-3 record across singles and doubles action, highlighted by a 5-1 mark in doubles matches.

Coach's Corner
"While it's disappointing that we weren't able to finish play today (lightning and rain suspended play), we put together a really solid weekend. I am proud of this team's commitment to the process and the performance controllables that will continue to pave their way to success this season. We are looking forward to competing for a regional championship next week (at ITA South Regional)," said Head Coach Tom Rees.
