Freshmen London Vasilescu (left) and Luciano Larosa celebrate after winning the doubles C draw at the Grizzly Invitational
The Georgia Gwinnett College men's tennis team's freshmen duo of Luciano Larosa and London Vasilescu won a doubles flight title against NCAA Division I competition on Sunday to conclude the season-opening Grizzly Invitational at the GGC Tennis Facility.

The Grizzly pair was victorious in the tournament's C bracket by defeating an UAB team by a 7-5 tiebreaker score in the championship match after collecting a 6-2 triumph against a pairing from Georgia State University in the semifinal round.

RESULTS

Meanwhile, the team of sophomore Luka Vuglar and freshman Kellen Simmons lost to a duo from Georgia Tech in the final of the B bracket. They were 6-3 semifinal winners over a team from Jacksonville State University (Alabama).

In singles, Vasilescu rallied from dropping the first set against Georgia State's Marc Kleber to win a marathon Black draw battle. He forced a deciding third set by winning the second set in a tiebreaker by a 7-5 score. Vasilescu carried the momentum into the deciding set, winning by an 18-16 tiebreaker score.
Jit Singh forehand
The Grizzly freshman proceeded to lose in straight sets to Georgia State's Giovanni Ronzio in a later round of the tournament.

Freshman Aryan Jit Singh was victorious on the third day with a 7-5, 2-6, 10-5 score against Jacksonville State's Aman Dahiya.

Vuglar rounded out team's winners with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph against Anthony Osipov of The Citadel (South Carolina).

The Grizzly Invitational featured GGC, the defending NAIA national team champions, hosting players from six Division I schools.

Coach's Corner
"We are experimenting with our doubles pairings. It went well with freshmen Luciano and London getting two wins in back-to-back fashion to win their draw. This should help them grow in confidence. As a team, we represented ourselves very well against good (Division I) competition. The guys also handled adversity with Saturday's weather delay and adjusted their playing schedules very well. That's good preparation for the upcoming ITA Regional," said Head Coach Tom Rees.
