Georgia Gwinnett College's Office of Athletics has once again been selected to host the Opening Round tournaments of the NAIA baseball and softball national championships. The NAIA national office chose the 10 sites for both tournaments based upon the quality of a host college's facilities, geographic location, and teams' performances during the 2025 regular season.
Softball's Lawrenceville Bracket will have games May 12-15 in a double-elimination tournament at the Grizzly Softball Complex. This will be the ninth straight year GGC has hosted an Opening Round in the sport.
Meanwhile, baseball's Lawrenceville Bracket will have games May 12-15 at the Grizzly Baseball Complex. The tournament will be a double-elimination format. GGC is hosting a baseball Opening Round for the fourth consecutive year and 10th time in the program's 13-year history.
Winners of both Opening Round tournaments will advance to the NAIA national championship tournament sites.
Teams competing in both Opening Round tournaments, first-round pairings and schedules will be announced by the NAIA national office on Wednesday, May 7.
This year's GGC softball team, coached by
Kat Ihlenburg, stands 41-8 and is ranked No. 6 in the final regular season NAIA Top 25 poll. GGC earned the top seed for the 2025 Continental Athletic Conference Softball Championship Tournament that's currently underway on campus. The Grizzlies have advanced to the NAIA World Series four times when hosting an Opening Round tournament, including 2024 and 2023.
The baseball team, led by Head Coach
Jeremy Sheetinger, has a 46-4 record and was ranked No. 2 in the last Top 25 poll of the regular season. The Grizzlies are the top seed in the 2025 CAC Baseball Championship Tournament that begins Friday, May 2, in Lawrenceville. GGC has advanced to the Avista NAIA World Series in each of the last six times when hosting an Opening Round tournament.
