No. 1 Men’s Tennis Sweeps SCAD Atlanta

The NAIA's top-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College men's tennis team began a busy week of dual matches with a 7-0 home sweep against SCAD Atlanta on Tuesday evening at the GGC Tennis Facility.

The Grizzlies (13-2) quickly secured the match's doubles point with senior Aleksandr Kalinin and junior Luis Francisco Sampedro clinching the point behind a 6-3 score on the No. 3 court. The NAIA's top-ranked duo of senior Jeremias Rocco and junior Santiago Villarruel opened the match with a 6-2 victory on the No. 1 court.

GGC players carried the positive momentum into singles play, registering six straight-set triumphs.

Kalinin won by identical 6-1 set scores on the No. 4 court for the team's second point of the match. Freshman Kamron McIntosh-Ross won 12 of the 13 games at No. 6 singles to give the hosts a 3-0 advantage.

Kalinin actionRocco collected the team's fourth point with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at the top of the singles lineup. Villarruel followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles before Francisco Sampedro won by a 6-1, 6-4 score on the No. 2 court.

Senior Andoni Garmendia rounded out Tuesday's winners behind a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles.

Coach's Corner
"The guys played strong today. It was great to get back out on the court and into a routine of matches, with a good level of play on every court. We took care of business in doubles, which is what we expect as we continue to prepare for the NAIA National Championships. It was great to see Jeremias competing well again in singles," said Head Coach Hannah Keeling.
