Glenda Dowdy has been named Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance, Academic and Business Services with the Georgia Gwinnett College Office of Athletics.
In this role, Dowdy will oversee the department's compliance and eligibility along with academic support responsibilities for all GGC student-athletes in eight intercollegiate sports.
Dowdy has been the program coordinator for College Advising Corps at the University of Georgia and was an academic coordinator for University of Virginia Athletics from 2020-22. She also served as a graduate assistant at the University of Missouri athletic department from 2019-20.
"Glenda brings a wealth of experience helping student-athletes achieve their academic goals," said Executive Athletic Director
Dr. Ian Potter. "I am excited for her to implement elements of those past successes and working with our student-athletes and coaches to continue our department's strong academic and athletic achievements."
At Georgia, Dowdy supervised 25 college advisors at 20 high schools across nine school districts in the state as the interim program director in 2023-24. As the program coordinator she recruited, hired, trained and supervised 13 college advisors at nine high schools in the Atlanta Public School System.
As an assistant academic coordinator at Virginia, Dowdy coordinated the academic caseload for approximately 76 student-athletes in a variety of sports teams. She previously prepared weekly grade reports and spreadsheets that effectively tracked Missouri student-athletes' eligibility and their progress toward achieving academic degrees as the assistant learning specialist and assistant academic coordinator.
"I am excited and grateful for this wonderful opportunity to return to athletics' academic affairs," said Dowdy. "Georgia Gwinnett College is a school that I have always admired, based on their inclusive efforts and quality student services. I'm ready to start making my mark as a Grizzly."
She began her career as the Georgia College Advising Corps, serving Benjamin E. Mays High School in Atlanta from 2017-19. Dowdy helped more than 300 seniors pursue post-secondary education programs and planned an annual Decision Day to highlight students' college and military service plans with this role.
Dowdy earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Georgia in 2016 and added a master's degree in educational, school and counseling psychology from the University of Missouri in 2021.
