Justine Lespes reached the singles semifinal round before losing to the top seed on Saturday afternoon in the women's draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Cup at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.
DRAWS: SINGLES
Lespes, the tournament's No. 3 seed, dropped a 6-2, 6-2 match to Violet Apisah of Keiser University (Florida). Apisah won the last four games of the first set and came out on top of 74 percent of her second serve points, compared to just 46 percent for Lespes.
The GGC player won her first two matches at this year's ITA Cup, including a three-set triumph during Thursday's quarterfinal round. Lespes was the defending NAIA singles national champion.
Coach's Corner
"Justine had a tough semifinal match against a good player. She just couldn't execute in some moments today, but that's part of competitive tennis. Justine's legacy at GGC will continue and I can't wait to see her help the team compete for another national title in the spring. She is a special person and student-athlete, and I'm proud to be her coach," said Head Coach
Hannah Keeling.
