Four Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer players have been named to the College Sports Communicators' NAIA women's soccer Academic All-District team, the organization announced on Tuesday, November 21.

Armenta dribbleSenior Kyara Armenta joins junior Ola Orelesi and sophomore Vanna Darrell in advancing to the national Academic All-America ballot, with nationwide voting among sports information directors and content creators. The NAIA Academic All-America team will be announced in mid-December.

Senior Pernilla Westergren rounded out the Academic All-District team honorees, but didn't advance for national recognition.

Eligible student-athletes needed to have a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore academic standing and participate in 90% of athletic competitions for the 2023 season.

Armenta led the Grizzlies with 15 goals – the third highest seasonal total in program history – and assisted on three other tallies in 18 matches this fall. Her 35 career goals stand second in GGC history. Armenta attempted 52 shots this season, with 33 being on goal. She holds the program career record with 93 matches played.

Armenta is earning Academic All-District honors for the second time in her career and was a three-time first all-conference team selection.

Orelesi headerOrelesi was named the 2023 Continental Athletic Conference Player of the Year and garnered NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week honors once this fall. She started all 20 matches and contributed to a defensive effort that had the team post four shutouts.

Darrell also contributed to the Grizzlies' strong defense this fall. She started 18 matches, and her lone assist of the season came in a September home match against Middle Georgia State University. Darrell received first all-CAC team accolades this fall.

Westergren tallied seven assists and three goals in 20 matches to garner first all-conference team honors in 2023. The midfielder had three assists and scored one goal to earn all-tournament honors as GGC captured the CAC championship.

Georgia Gwinnett College won its sixth conference tournament title with a 2-1 victory against Bellevue University (Nebraska) in the CAC tournament championship match on November 11. That advanced the Grizzlies to their seventh straight NAIA national tournament appearance.
