Shutout Advances Women’s Soccer to CAC Championship Match

The top-seeded Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team scored four first-half goals to defeat No. 4 seed Florida National University 6-0 in Sunday's semifinal match of the Continental Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.

The Grizzlies (9-5-5) advance to the title match against No. 2 seed Bellevue University (Nebraska) on Tuesday, November 11, at 4 p.m.

GGC scored all four of its first-half goals in the opening 17 minutes of the match.

Freshman Kendra Delgado scored a goal and assisted on another tally. She found the back of the net during the fourth minute before contributing an assist on a goal by sophomore Christy Noble in the ninth minute.

Freshman Hannah Lorenz followed with assist and a goal on the tournament host's next two goals. She delivered a corner kick that classmate Barbora Kadlecova converted into a goal in the 14th minute. Lorenz then scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season with a shot from the top of the 18-yard box during the 17th minute.

Delgado goalIn the second half, sophomore Gabby Stone registered both goals for the Grizzlies. She first found the back of the net in the 77th minute after consecutive passes down the left side of the pitch by junior Rikke Steenhold and freshman Alliyah Rosales. Stone's second goal of the match came during the 84th minute.

The Grizzlies outshot Florida National (3-8-1) by a 20-6 margin, including an 11-0 edge during the first half.

Georgia Gwinnett College has won eight conference titles during the past nine seasons, including the CAC 2024 and 2023 championships.

"At this time of the season the goal is to advance (for the championship match). I liked how quickly we moved the ball. When you do that against most teams, you're going to have success," said Head Coach Dr. Mike Giuliano.
 
Turning Point
Top seed GGC scored four times in the first 17 minutes to pick up the postseason victory in the semifinal round of the CAC tournament. Freshman Kendra Delgado scored the first goal and provided an assist on the second tally. Classmate Hannah Lorenz had an assist and found the back of the net on the next two goals of the opening half.
