The Georgia Gwinnett College women's tennis team earned its second straight sweep at the NAIA Tennis National Championships. This time, the No. 2-seeded Grizzlies defeated No. 10-seeded William Woods University (Mo.) 5-0 Thursday afternoon.
The victory moves GGC into the semifinals Friday, May 18, at 1 p.m. against No. 3-seeded Xavier University (La.).
Georgia Gwinnett College, the two-time defending NAIA national champions, quickly grabbing a 2-0 lead in doubles with a pair of 8-2 triumphs. Sophomore Emerald Able and freshman Madeline Bosnjak were victorious at the top of the doubles lineup. Then, junior Henar Munoz and sophomore Margarida Abreu picked up a victory on the No. 2 doubles court.
Junior Gabrielle Robinson and sophomore Maria Prados Cid recorded a hard-fought 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles after a lengthy weather delay.
GGC (16-2) picked up a pair of straight-set wins in singles play to secure the victory. Bosnjak won all 12 games on the No. 2 court, while Munoz clinched the match victory with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
