Women's Soccer Unbeaten Streak Reaches Five Matches in Home Triumph

Box Score

The Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team is now unbeaten in its last five matches after a 3-0 home triumph against West Virginia Tech Friday evening at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.

The Grizzlies (4-3-1) completed a busy week of soccer, playing 308 minutes across three matches. The team posted a 2-0-1 record with a victory at No. 23-ranked Cumberland University Tuesday and a draw against No. 8-ranked Keiser University last Sunday. GGC is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 poll.

Senior Bristol Countess scored an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute to get into the scoring column for the first time in 2017.

Then, the hosts tallied two goals in a six-minute span during the second half to secure the victory. Junior Amanda Yarger found the back of the net in the 63rd minute after receiving quick passes from junior Lauren Moss and senior Amy Morland. Moss scored in the 69th minute for her first goal of the season.

Turning Point

The run of play was in the middle of the pitch for a major portion of the first half. GGC started to sustain pressure and in the 32nd minute, senior Bristol Countess retrieved a failed clearance attempt. She put a shot on goal from 25 yards out into the upper right corner of the goal in a quick sudden change of pattern. The goal proved to be the game-winning tally.
