Box Score For the second straight home contest, the Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team outshot its opponent, but a late tally was the deciding factor in a loss. This time it came in a 2-1 loss to Emory University on Friday evening at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.
The Grizzlies tallied 12 of their 17 shots in a second-half push after Emory found the back of the net in the 16th minute of the match.
Junior Caitlin Berry squared the match with GGC's first goal of the season in the 63rd minute. The two teams battled for control over the remaining 27 minutes until Emory's Abbe McCarter got a breakaway goal with 60 seconds left in the contest.
GGC's two home matches have come in hard-fought setbacks. The team lost 1-0 with nine seconds left in the second overtime period in the season opener against SCAD Savannah on Aug. 17.
Turning Point
With the match deadlocked at one goal apiece, a turnover at midfield allowed Emory a breakaway opportunity. Abbe McCarter slipped the shot under the GGC goalkeeper and inside the left post.
