Men's Soccer Loses A.I.I. Soccer Championship Match to Waldorf

Third-seeded Waldorf University scored once in each half to defeat the Georgia Gwinnett College men's soccer team 2-0 in the championship match of the 2017 Association of Independent Institutions tournament Saturday afternoon from the Grizzly Soccer Complex.

The Warriors got on the scoreboard in the 20th minute as Jean Bonnin successfully converted a penalty kick goal. Waldorf added an insurance goal when Jose Rincon found the back of the goal with 70 seconds remaining in the match.

Bonnin was named the 2017 A.I.I. Men's Soccer Championship's Most Outstanding Player.

GGC now waits to find out if it is selected for an at-large berth to the NAIA national tournament during the NAIA Selection Show Monday, Nov. 13. The Grizzlies are ranked No. 9 in the NAIA Top 25 poll and stand 11-3-2 on the season.

Turning Point

Waldorf struck first after converting a penalty kick in the 20th minute. The Grizzlies were unable to find the back of the net for the tying goal. Then, Waldorf got an insurance goal in the final two minutes of playing time when GGC was pressing with numbers in the box.
