Gonzalez Breaks Single-Season Goal Mark, Leads No. 21 Women's Soccer Past Union

Box Score

The Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team continues to set program records during the 2017 season. Junior Ana Gonzalez set the single-season goal mark after scoring three times in Wednesday's 3-0 victory against Union College (Ky.) at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.

Gonzalez registered her second hat trick of the season for the No. 21 Grizzlies. She has now scored 13 goals on the season, moving past Nikki LeFevre's 12 goals set one season ago.

The Grizzlies (12-3-1) got on the scoreboard in the 19th minute when junior Caitlin Berry set up Gonzalez's first goal. The cross from the right side of the 18-yard box found Gonzaelz's foot who beat the Union goalkeeper.

In the 34th minute, Gonzalez drilled a shot from 20 yards out that skipped off the bottom of the crossbar. Gonzalez rounded out the scoring in the 80th minute with an unassisted goal.

GGC attempted 38 shots in the match, including 23 on goal over the 90 minutes of action.

The Grizzlies have won 10 straight matches and are unbeaten in their last 13 contests.

Turning Point

The Grizzlies hit the post twice and the crossbar in the first 15 minutes of action, but could not break through for a goal. The team finally got on the scoreboard when Gonzalez finished a cross from junior Caitlin Berry. Berry made a long run down the right sideline before sending the ball from the right side of the 18-yard box.
