Two School Records Matched as No. 24 Women's Soccer Wins at Cardinal Stritch

Box Score

Junior Ana Gonzalez tied the Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team's single-match record by scoring three goals to help lead the No. 24-ranked Grizzlies to a 5-1 victory at Wisconsin's Cardinal Stritch University Tuesday afternoon.

GGC (8-3-1) won for the sixth straight match, tying a program record set during the 2013 season.

Gonzalez became the seventh player in program history to register a hat trick in a match, and was the first feat of its kind since senior Amy Morland tallied three goals against Brewton-Parker College on Aug. 31, 2016.

The forward got things started quickly, finding the back of the net in the third minute of the match. She added a second goal in the 15th minute as GGC took a quick 2-0 lead. Gonzalez scored three minutes into the second half to conclude her scoring for the day. The goal gave the visitors a 4-0 lead.

"Ana is becoming a more dangerous offensive threat for us. Today's performance does not surprise me because she has been training at a high level. She is getting better each week," said Head Coach Dr. Mike Giuliano.

Junior Caitlin Berry tallied her third goal of the season in the 37th minute, while Morland capped the team's scoring in the 57th minute. The senior provided an assist on Gonzalez's second tally of the match.

Senior Dominique Fletcher recorded three assists Tuesday, tying for the second most assists in a match in program history.

Turning Point

Gonzalez wasted little time in finding the back of the net, scoring the match's initial goal in the third minute. A pass from senior Dominique Fletcher set up Gonzalez for the first of her two goals in the opening 15 minutes of action. The visitors would not look back and pulled away for the victory.
