The No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett women's tennis team continued its winning streak on Monday, defeating the Cumberlands (Ky.) 8-1. The victory is the Grizzlies' fifth consecutive in four days.
The day started with singles play with hopes of getting in as many matches as possible with inclement weather moving into the area.
GGC started the day off with a quick 6-0, 6-0 sweep at the number four singles spot as junior Chiara Di Salvo took just 31 minutes to defeat UC's Marie Bozeman.
Moments later, junior Valeria Podda collected the second Grizzly victory against Isabella Dale. "I fought hard for the win today against a very good opponent," stated Podda. "The team is starting to come together to achieve great things."
The Grizzlies received three other wins in singles play as Klara Dohnalova (6-1, 6-2), Sophie Feller (6-4, 6-4), and Helga Pinones-Haltenhoff (6-1, 6-1) collected victories.
Georgia Gwinnett dominated doubles play, conceding just one point at the number three spot. The doubles duos of Podda & Feller and Dohnalova & Di Salvo blanked their opponents in the 8-0 victories.
The Patriots' lone victory of the day was collected at the number three singles spot as Sydni Grimes defeated Alyona Vasileva, 11-9.
GGC returns to action on Saturday when it hosts NCAA Division II foe Clayton State (Ga.) in head-to-head action. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
