The No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett women's tennis team picked up two key victories on Friday, sweeping No. 6 William Carey (Miss.) and No. 13 Cumberland (Tenn.) on the opening day of the GGC Invitational.
"Today was a great pair of wins for us after having a three-week layoff from competition," stated GGC head coach Chase Hodges. "We did a great job getting ahead in our matches and finishing strong down the stretch."
The Grizzlies picked up a 5-0 win over William Carey while they cruised to a 6-0 victory over Cumberland.
GGC's doubles play led the way in both victories, sweeping their competition. The pair consisting of Valeria Podda and Sophie Feller had a convincing 8-0 victory over Cumberland's Tasha de Souza and Angelica Sepulveda while Klara Dohnalova and Helga Pinones-Haltenhoff defeated William Carey's Mathilde Rinderknech and Kayla Rycroft, 8-1.
In singles play, Chiara Di Salvo collected two victories on the day, defeating WCU's Rinderknech 6-0, 6-0 and Cumberland's Trinidad Aguirre 6-1, 6-0.
