Top-Ranked Grizzlies Sweep Ranked Opponents, Improve to 9-0

The No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett men's tennis team improved to 9-0 on Friday, sweeping No. 10 William Carey (Miss.) and No. 23 Cumberland (Tenn.) on the first day of action at the GGC Invitational.

The Invitational, which began at 10:30 a.m. at the GGC Tennis Facility, started off with a 5-0 win over William Carey.  The Grizzlies then picked up their second win of the day, defeating Cumberland 8-0.

"The guys continue to grow stronger and stronger with each match," stated GGC head coach Chase Hodges.  "We faced very tough competition and gained viable experience that will be beneficial later in the season."

The doubles duos of Kevin Konfederak & Jordan Cox, Matias Hatem & Connor Clements, and Luke Morland & Lachlan McPhee all went 2-0 on the day, picking up wins against William Carey and Cumberland.

Hodges sat Konfederak, Cox, and Hatem against Cumberland, allowing Jorge Gonzalaz, Tony Licata, and Morland to gain time in singles play.  The trio picked up victories over the Phoenix, clinching the 8-0 win.

Notably, Clements swept Cumberland's Thiago Lopes (6-0, 6-0) at the number two singles spot.

The Grizzlies return to action on Saturday when they host NCAA Division I foe Tennessee Tech.  First serve is set for noon.
