The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2016 NAIA Women's Soccer All-America teams on Tuesday afternoon, naming Georgia Gwinnett's senior Tiffany Rodriguez and sophomore Nicole Rodriguez to the prestigious honoree list.
Both Tiffany and Nicole Rodriguez received Honorable Mention selections on this year's NAIA All-American list, joining Jocelyn Baker (Honorable Mention, 2013) as the only other GGC women's soccer players to receive NAIA All-American recognition in the program's five-year history.
The NAIA All-America committee, which consists of the NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches Association Executive Committee, the National Championship Games Committee, and seven women's soccer coaches chosen based on geographic location, selected each team—first, second and third—consisting of 11 members. The list also included 66 honorable mentions.
As the team's captain, Tiffany Rodriguez started and played in all 19 of GGC's matches this season. The Atlanta, Ga., native tallied 20 points on the year, netting five goals while dishing out a GGC-high 10 assists. Rodriguez is the all-time GGC assists leader, converting 21 in her three seasons as a Grizzly.
Sophomore Nicole Rodriguez was a defensive force for the Grizzlies that saw the squad record four shutouts on the season. She tallied 10 points during the season, scoring on three occasions while converting four assists. Nicole saw time in 18 matches in 2016, starting in 15. She attempted 19 shots on the year, landing eight on frame.
