LAWRENCEVILLE - There was no letdown following Tuesday's big win on the road for the Georgia Gwinnett men's soccer team as Jamie King found the back of the net twice in the opening 12 minutes to lead the Grizzlies to a 2-0 victory over No. 14 William Carey at Grizzly Soccer Complex on Sunday.

"It was a point of emphasis to come out and start fast and we did that today," GGC Head Coach Steve DeCou said. "It would have been a shame to come out after such a big win at Auburn-Montgomery and just give it away. I'm very pleased with the boys."

With the win, the No. 16 Grizzlies improved to 6-1 on the season, and WCU dropped to 5-3.

It was once again Ibrahima Sissoko setting the table for a GGC goal as the Norcross native took a throw-in from defender Zach Mruk and played it through to a sprinting King, who split the defense and deposited the ball past a diving Dominic Colman. It marked the fourth straight match that Sissoko has registered an assist, and he is now tied with teammate German Rodriguez in the GGC record books with 16 for his career.

Mruk would play a more important role in King's second goal as he stormed down the right side to serve in a perfect cross to the feet of the Englishman on the opposite post to double the advantage.

"This is why we went after Jamie," DeCou said. "We knew that these are the types of things that he can do. As he gets more fit and we get him more ingrained to what we're doing, he's only going to get better. He just doesn't miss when he gets in the box."

King now has six goals in seven matches for GGC this season.

It was another strong defensive day for the Grizzlies as Lewis Sharpe was credited for a third shutout in four matches. He finished the day with two saves.

"It's really a team effort on defense today because we kept Lewis from having to do too much back there," DeCou explained. "We did a great neutralizing them in the midfield, and of course, Ellis Husband and Ruud Grol did a really good job taking care of the aerial threats that they have. The 10 guys in front of him really put in a shift for Lewis today."

Combined with Tuesday's victory over second-ranked AUM, the Grizzlies have won twice over ranked opponents in the same week for the second time in program history. Last season, the Green and Gray accomplished the feat with victories over then-No.16 AUM and No. 24 SCAD Savannah.

GGC will return to action next Saturday when Shorter rolls into town for an evening match at Grizzly Soccer Complex. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
