ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. - After a physical game in tough conditions on Saturday, Georgia Gwinnett Head Coach Domenic Martelli was hoping his team would be able to recuperate, and his Grizzly women's soccer team answered those concerns early, finding the back of the net three times in the first half and three more in the second to secure a 6-0 victory over Milligan at Anglin Athletic Fields.

"I think the field was a little better today, and we were also a little fortunate in the first half with a couple of deflections," Martelli explained. "Then Mary scored a wonderful goal to go up 3-0. We possessed very well today and really limited them offensively. It was nice to get minutes from a lot of different players, and it was great to goals from a lot of different people too."

The Grizzlies (4-3) dominated the run of play throughout, outshooting the Buffaloes (1-4) 18-6 and putting nine shots on frame. However, first blood was drawn by Milligan on itself as the Buffaloes put the ball in their own net in the 22nd minute. Mary Vernetti continued her goal-scoring form later in the half, scoring twice in the final five minutes to send the Green and Gray into the break with a 3-0 advantage.

Vernetti has now scored six goals in six matches this season.

Kelsey Griswold, who has already picked up a pair of assists this season, bagged her first career goal in the 67th minute. Bristol Countess was credited for setting up the play, her second helper in as many days. Jessica Beasley and Lacey Webb also earned their first career goals as goalkeepers Alex Hays, Courtney Hicks and Magaly Gutierrez combined for five saves to seal the first Grizzly shutout since August.

GGC will now prepare to return to the Grizzly Soccer Complex for a showdown with No. 4 Northwood on Sunday. The match will be part of a doubleheader with the Grizzly men's team, and both games will be webcast as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America College Game of the Week. Kickoff for the men is slated for noon, and the women will follow at 2:30 p.m.
