The Georgia Gwinnett women’s soccer team battled Montreat College to a 0-0 tie Saturday afternoon in Montreat, N.C.
The teams played two overtime periods but neither side could produce the deciding score.
The Grizzlies (5-4-1) held a Cavaliers (9-1-2) squad in check that has not lost in its last 11 outings. GGC forced Montreat goalkeeper Caroline Mellard to make eight saves while Mo Gutierrez posted her fourth shutout of the season for Georgia Gwinnett with six saves.
Mackenzie Bailey, Amanda Dale and Mary Vernetti each fired a pair of shots for the GGC attack.
“It was a positive experience to play in front of a big homecoming crowd and come away with a tie against a strong team,” GGC head coach Domenic Martelli said after the game. “We really had a tremendous amount of chances but couldn’t take advantage of our opportunities to get the win. We weren’t as consistent as I’d like but now we try and build a little momentum and get wins instead of a tie.”
The Grizzlies return to action Tuesday, Oct. 9, by hosting Young Harris College in the first night game on GGC’s new synthetic turf field on campus.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday.
