Women’s Soccer Continues Home Winning Streak

A goal by sophomore Hannah Lorenz in the 57th minute made the difference as the No. 18-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team scored a 2-1 victory over St. Thomas University (Florida) on a hot Saturday afternoon at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.

The Grizzlies (3-2-0) remain undefeated in their three home matches for this season.

Lorenz drilled a shot into the net from 15 yards in the middle of the pitch after quick passes down the right sideline by junior Andrea Cova and senior Jessica Fuentes. Lorenz has scored a goal in four of GGC's five matches and has six total goals in 2026.

The hosts struck first in the 14th minute as sophomore Alliyah Rosales accounted for her second goal of the fall campaign. It came as she redirected a right crossing pass from junior Nova Eskelinen. Sophomore Kendra Delgado had earlier found Eskelinen along the right side of the 18-yard box in front of the opposing goal.

St. Thomas (3-2-1) evened the match, at 1-1, when Rebecca Louis successfully converted a penalty kick in the 22nd minute. It was the first goal that GGC has allowed at home this season.

The Grizzlies outshot St. Thomas by a 13-6 margin – continuing a trend of outshooting each opponent this season. Lorenz paced the offensive attack with four shot attempts, while freshman Frida Bang and Rosales each recorded two shots.

Junior goalkeeper Elle Sarter made four saves, including three in the second half, to collect the victory in her season debut.
 
Coach's Corner
"I thought we played hard and with a version of high pressure for a majority of the match. This is our fifth contest in which we scored first and have outshot our opponent. There are a lot of positives to take away from today and the start to this season," said Head Coach Dr. Mike Giuliano.
 
Turning Point
Sophomore Hannah Lorenz continues to find a way of putting the ball into the back of the opposing net. Quick passes from junior Andrea Cova and senior Jessica Fuentes found Lorenz open inside the 18-yard box in front of the goal. Her shot beat St. Thomas goalkeeper Emma Butcher on the right side of the goal for the eventual match-winning goal in the 57th minute.
