Strong Singles Play Leads Women’s Tennis to Two Road Victories

The Georgia Gwinnett College women's tennis team relied on strong singles play to record a pair of 4-2 victories in matches on Wednesday played at the University of Tennessee Southern in Pulaski, Tennessee.

The No. 25-ranked Grizzlies (7-7) rallied from dropping the doubles point against Tennessee Southern in the morning match. Then, GGC collected a victory against No. 19 Cumberland University (Tennessee) later in the day.

Junior Mireia Simon Sanchez began the comeback against the host Firehawks (3-17) with a 6-0, 6-1 victory on the No. 4 court. The triumph trimmed the deficit to 2-1 after Tennessee Southern was victorious at No. 6 singles.

Junior Suryanshi continued the rally with a 6-2, 6-1 victory on the No. 2 court. Sophomore MaryLove Edwards won all 12 games at the top of the lineup to give the Grizzlies their first lead in the match, at 3-2. Then, freshman Minami Tan closed out the victory with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph on the No. 3 court.
