The Georgia Gwinnett College softball team extended its winning streak to a season-best six straight games with a 5-4 and 10-0 doubleheader sweep at Bryan College on Tuesday afternoon in Dayton, Tennessee.
The Grizzlies (18-15) rallied behind a three-run sixth inning to win the opener. Senior first baseman
Savannah Jenkins hit a two-run single to center field with two outs to tie the contest at 4-4. The liner scored sophomore center fielder
Casey Beaver and junior third baseman
Morgan McQuagge, who slid headfirst into home plate to beat the relay from the outfield while scoring from first base.
Senior second baseman
Sara Roussel followed with the go-ahead RBI single up the middle, scoring Jenkins.
Bryan (18-16) threatened in the bottom half of the sixth inning against GGC's freshman relief pitcher
Tatum Helsom. Consecutive singles with one out followed by a fielder's choice put the potential go-ahead run into scoring position. However, Lakyn Lockhart was tagged out at home trying to score on a wild pitch.
GGC jumped out to a 2-0 lead after freshman designated player
Lauren Rockhold tallied a run-scoring single to left field in the top of the second inning. Jenkins hit a solo homer to left field one inning later.

However, the Lions answered during the bottom of the third inning on a two-run double from Ava Saul to tie the contest at 2-2. A fielding error allowed the hosts to take the lead in the fourth inning before extending the advantage during the fifth inning when Madison Carpenter scored following a passed ball.
GGC carried the first game's late-inning momentum into the nightcap, putting six runs on the scoreboard in the opening frame. Freshman designated player
Molly Kemp cleared the bases with a double to give the visitors a 4-0 lead. Senior left fielder
Enna Lackey and Beaver added consecutive RBI singles.
The Grizzlies added three more runs in the fourth inning. Jenkins began the productive frame with a run-scoring double before Roussel and junior right fielder
Sophie Sisk hit back-to-back RBI ground outs.
Roussel went 4-for-4 during the opener, while Jenkins registered multiple hits in both games and drove in four runs for the day. Kemp tallied two hits and scored twice in the second contest.
Freshman pitcher
Addie Self picked up her second win of the season with two scoreless innings in relief in the opener. Helsom scattered five hits and struck out four batters in tossing her third straight shutout. She improved to 7-7 inside the circle and recorded her second save of the spring campaign on Tuesday.
