The Georgia Gwinnett College softball team dropped a pair of one-run games at Cumberland University, falling 3-2 in nine innings and then 6-5 on Wednesday afternoon in Lebanon, Tennessee.
The Grizzlies (18-17) nearly pulled off another come-from-behind victory in the opener when they scored twice in the top of the seventh inning. Junior right fielder
Sophie Sisk tied the game, at 1-1, with an RBI ground out to shortstop. Then, freshman catcher
Brooke Rockhold hit a fielder's choice that brought home senior second baseman
Sara Roussel for the go-ahead run, at 2-1.
However, the Phoenix (8-11) responded by tying the game in the bottom half of the seventh inning as Elly Castle hit an RBI ground out to second base.
GGC sophomore center fielder
Casey Beaver threw out Cumberland's potential game-winning run to complete an inning-ending double play that ended the eighth inning. The visitors were unable to score in the eighth and ninth innings before Karley Daughrity hit a walk-off single to right field, with two outs, that scored the winning run in the ninth inning.
The Grizzlies had rallied from a 4-2 deficit in Tuesday's one-run triumph at Bryan College (Tennessee).

In the second game, GGC raced out to a 4-0 lead by pushing across a pair of runs in each of the first two innings. Roussel hit a run-scoring single up the middle in the first inning. Junior third baseman
Morgan McQuagge started the second inning with an RBI single to right field. Roussel drew a bases-loaded walk later in the frame.
The Phoenix responded behind a five-run third inning. Abby Chappell hit a run-scoring single before Karsyn France connected on a grand slam homer that gave the hosts a 6-4 advantage.
McQuagge brought the Grizzlies within a run, at 6-5, in the top of the fifth inning after an infield RBI single. She went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs in the contest.
