Women’s Tennis Scores 6-1 Road Triumph

The Georgia Gwinnett College women's tennis team recorded a convincing 6-1 victory at NCAA Division I Clark Atlanta University on Friday afternoon in Atlanta.

The Grizzlies (5-7) once again used strong doubles play to grab early momentum in the dual match. The No. 2 pairing of junior Mireia Simon Sanchez and freshman Minami Tan collected the first doubles triumph by a 6-2 score.

Sophomore MaryLove Edwards and junior Suryanshi teamed to clinch the doubles point with a 6-4 victory at the top of the lineup.

GGC has won the doubles point in each of its last six matches.

The momentum carried over into singles, winning the opening set on five of the six courts.

Simon Sanchez secured the match-clinching fourth point by a 6-2, 6-0 score at No. 4 singles. Tan then collected a 6-1, 6-2 victory on the No. 3 court before senior Nicoleta Anestiadi rounded out the team's winners with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 5 singles.

Coach's Corner
"It was a good day for the Grizzlies. I loved the energy we played with throughout the lineup. When we have six players bought into playing high-energy, high-percentage tennis we really build well and look strong and confident in our patterns. There's more work and progress to come for this group," said Head Coach Tom Rees.
