Women’s Tennis Wins Home Match

The Georgia Gwinnett College women's tennis team has won back-to-back matches for the first time this spring after defeating NCAA Division III's Earlham College (Indiana) 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon at the GGC Tennis Facility.

The Grizzlies (3-5) were dominant in singles action after winning the matches doubles point.

Sophomore MaryLove Edwards gave the hosts a 3-0 lead in the dual match after winning all 12 games on the No. 1 court. Freshman Minami Tan also was victorious by a 6-0, 6-0 score on the No. 2 court for the first singles triumph.

Junior Mireia Simon Sanchez won 12 of the 13 games on the No. 3 court to tally the match-clinching fourth point. Senior Nicoleta Anestiadi rounded out the singles winners with a 6-2, 6-3 victory on the No. 4 court.

Freshman Toluwani Akosile nearly completed a dramatic comeback in a match on the No. 6 court, winning the second set by a 6-4 score before falling 12-10 in a highly competitive third-set tiebreaker.
Tan return
In doubles, the Tan-Simon Sanchez tandem posted a 6-2 victory on the No. 2 court to clinch the point for the 1-0 dual match lead. Edwards teamed with Anestiadi to win 6-0 at the top of the lineup.
