Men’s Tennis Collects Sweep After Lengthy Break

The NAIA's No. 1-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College men's tennis team showed no signs of rust from an 18-day break in the schedule by sweeping NCAA Division III's Earlham College (Indiana) 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the GGC Tennis Facility.

The Grizzlies (10-0) were victorious in straight sets during all six singles matches.

Senior Luis Francisco Sampedro collected a 6-2, 6-0 victory on the No. 2 court to give the hosts a 2-0 lead in the match.

Fellow senior Francisco Perez Esnaola won 12 of the 13 games at No. 3 singles before classmate Santiago Villarruel won by identical 6-1 set scores at the top of the singles lineup to post the match-clinching fourth point.

Sophomore Gian Durrer also was victorious by a 6-1, 6-1 score at No. 4 singles before junior Kanan Gasimov won all 12 games on the No. 5 court. Freshman Luka Vuglar recorded its first collegiate victory with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.

Coach's Corner
"After not playing for nearly two-and-a-half weeks, it was great to get back on the court before playing four matches in four days. We were able to get everybody in the lineup. The guys took care of business and set the tone for the rest of the busy weekend," said Head Coach Tom Rees.
