The Georgia Gwinnett College women's tennis team opened its home slate with a convincing 6-1 triumph against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (Georgia) on Tuesday afternoon at the GGC Tennis Facility.

Tom Rees scored his first women's tennis coaching win for the 10-time NAIA national championship program.
GGC (1-1) swept all three doubles matches as senior
Nicoleta Anestiadi teamed with sophomore
MaryLove Edwards for a 6-0 victory on the No. 1 court. That clinched the doubles point and the team took an early 1-0 advantage. The duo of junior

Minami Tan earned a 6-3 triumph at No. 2 doubles.
After losing a singles match, the hosts regained the lead, at 2-1, following a 6-1, 6-0 straight-set victory by Simon Sanchez on the No. 3 court. Then, Edwards improved to 2-0 on the young season by winning 12 of 13 games at the top of the singles lineup for the Grizzlies' third point of the match.

Tan secured the home match triumph by winning at No. 2 singles by identical 6-2 set scores. Anestiadi rounded out GGC's winners with a 6-2, 6-3 victory on the No. 3 court.
"Minami, Mireia and Nicoleta all picked up their first wins as Grizzlies today and they put up a good fight in our season opener against North Georgia. MaryLove does a great job of leading from the top. She is fierce and loud out on the court," said Rees.
Coach's Corner
"We spoke before the match about playing high percentage tennis and being solid in all areas of the game. We did just that, so I am pleased with the team's performance. It was a great job up and down the lineup. It is nice to get the first match victory and build some confidence heading into the (upcoming) indoor national championship," said Head Coach
