Men’s Basketball Scores Season-High 108 Points in Home Win

The temperatures might have been frigid outside, but the Georgia Gwinnett College men's basketball team was red hot inside the Convocation Center on Tuesday evening, making 56.8 percent of its field goals in scoring a 108-69 victory against Paine College (Georgia).

Six players scored in double figures for the Grizzlies (16-6), led by freshman Patrick Johnson with 17 points and 17 rebounds – his third career double-double performance. The forward secured the achievement in the first half, with 13 points and 10 rebounds within the first 20 minutes.

Junior Brasen James and freshman Amari Morgan each contributed 16 points, while senior Drew Kramer scored 14 points. Junior Jahiem Berry and freshman Mario Hill Jr. rounded out the balanced offensive attack with each adding 11 points to the triple digit point total.

The Grizzlies recorded 30 assists on 42 field goals in the game, and the team's 108 points was a season high for the inaugural season.

Kramer ballA tip-in on an offensive rebound from Johnson gave the hosts a 20-18 lead eight minutes into the contest. GGC took a 33-23 lead following a three-point play by Kramer at the 9:05 mark of the first half. Morgan converted a layup in transition to stretch the advantage to 17 points, at 48-31, late in the period.

The team hit seven of its 13 3-pointers during the second half toward a 57.9 shooting percentage to score 55 points in the second half.

GGC surpassed the century mark in a game for the fifth time this winter.

Coach's Corner
"I am pleased with the performance. Hard to be frustrated with too many things. This was a complete team effort and felt good to get back on the right track at home. Ten guys played 12 or more minutes and six guys were in double figures. Points in the paint was something we challenged the team before the game so for it to be 58-22 in our favor bodes well not only tonight but going forward," said Head Coach Chase Teichmann.

Turning Point
The Grizzlies closed out the first half strong, building a 53-36 lead over the first 20 minutes. GGC continued to shoot the ball well from the perimeter, making seven 3-pointers and connecting on 57.9 percent of its total shots during the second half.
