Men’s Soccer Closes Out Home Stand with Emphatic 4-1 Triumph

Fortunate bounces led the No. 17-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College men's soccer team to close out its six-match home stand with an emphatic 4-1 win against Tennessee Wesleyan University on Wednesday evening at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.

The Grizzlies (5-1-2) went unbeaten during the home stand and outscored the opposition by a 13-2 margin in the last two matches.

In the latest encounter, sophomore Alejandro Contrera had an initial shot bounce off the opposing post goal right to sophomore Luka Colic, who converted the opportunity for the match's first tally of the contest, happening in the 14th minute.

Later, sophomore Josefa Simao capitalized on a rebound from a saved shot for a goal in the 83rd minute.

In between, Contrera came back with his team-leading sixth goal, scoring from the six-yard box off a crossing pass from freshman Ousmane Fall at the 21-minute mark. Then Fall gave the hosts a 3-1 lead with a shot drilled into the net from the top of the 18-yard box off a quick pass from junior Francisco Osorio.

GGC outshot the Bulldogs (4-5-0) by a 15-4 margin, highlighted by 10 shots during a strong first-half performance. Contrera and Fall each scored a goal and registered an assist in the triumph. Fall led the charge with a match-high five shots as nine different players registered a shot attempt.

Coach's Corner
"We were good defensively and effective in front of the (Tennessee Wesleyan) goal. I'm very pleased with how we finished September (2-1-2) and the home stand (3-1-2). We were able to connect our passes and Alejandro (Contrera) was excellent in coming between the lines to set up combination plays," said Head Coach Steve DeCou.

Turning Point
The Grizzlies came out strong in the first half to take a 3-1 advantage into intermission. Sophomore Alejandro Contrera and freshman Ousmane Fall each found the back of the net in the 21st and 28th minutes to break an early 1-1 deadlock.
