Women’s Soccer Drops Ranked Showdown on Road

Lauren Entremont's hat trick in the first half led No. 3-ranked William Carey University (Mississippi) to a 3-0 victory over No. 19 Georgia Gwinnett College in a ranked showdown of NAIA women's soccer teams on Wednesday afternoon in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

The Crusaders (6-1-0) opened the scoring with Entremont's first goal in the 11th minute and then broke the match open when she found the back of the net two more times during a five-minute span near the midway point of the first half.

Entremont gave the hosts a 2-0 lead in the 20th minute after receiving a pass from Argentina Estrada. Later, Livia Pertl delivered a pass to Entremont for a score that capped off the hat trick.

GGC placed six of its 11 shots on goal but couldn't find the back of the opposing goal. Freshman Hannah Lorenz led the Grizzlies' offensive attack by tying for match-high honors with four shot attempts.

Wednesday's match marked the first road setback this season for the Grizzlies (3-3-1).

Coach's Corner
"We didn't execute our gameplan, especially early in the contest. After that, they were able to play the game out. We have to do it as a team, and the second unit did a much better job of that when we had our chances late in the first half. The three-goal scoreline doesn't reflect the separation between the two teams. I'm frustrated about the result. We will regroup from this and be ready for our next match in one week at Thomas," said Head Coach Dr. Mike Giuliano.

Turning Point
William Carey expanded its early lead with a pair of goals in a five-minute span at the halfway point of the first half, building the decisive 3-0 lead. Lauren Entremont found the back of the net all three times in the first half for the hosts.
