Freshman
Alliyah Rosales scored an equalizer goal in the 58th minute as the No. 19-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team battled Thomas University (Georgia) to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday afternoon in Thomasville, Georgia.
The forward netted her first collegiate goal after getting behind the Night Hawks' defense. She slotted the shot just inside the right post from inside the 18-yard box.
Thomas (4-5-1) struck in the ninth minute as Pearl Mortimer finished a one-on-one opportunity to give the hosts an early 1-0 advantage.
GGC (3-3-2) hit the crossbar with a shot in each half. Freshman
Hannah Lorenz just missed from scoring on a shot from 25 yards away in the sixth minute. She attempted a match-high five shots. Then, senior
Natalie Maguire struck the crossbar with one of her three shots during the 49th minute.
The Grizzlies controlled the statistics with a 14-6 shot advantage and a 7-2 margin in corner kicks.
Wednesday marked the team's second draw of the season.
Coach's Corner
"I love the fight that allowed us to make up a halftime deficit. Obviously, towards the end we were unlucky not to win. But we never should have put ourselves in that position," said Head Coach
Dr. Mike Giuliano.
