The No. 2-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College baseball team tallied 43 runs to close out its regular season home slate, defeating Spartanburg Methodist College (South Carolina) 20-7 and Carolina University (North Carolina) 23-3 on Saturday at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.
GGC (42-4) scored 76 runs in winning all four games of the weekend's Continental Athletic Conference Showdown.
Along the way the baseball program Saturday honored former GGC student and social media influencer Cody Butler on Cody Butler Day. His NAIA Ball social media platform has grown to have more than 42,000 followers on X and 20,000 followers on Instagram. The organization provides daily social updates and breaks down all the action across the NAIA baseball landscape with a weekly podcast.
A special seat in the grandstand of the Grizzly Baseball Complex honors Butler and GGC players and coaches wore NAIA Ball t-shirts in honor of Butler during both games on Saturday.
"Cody created something that has impacted thousands and continues to impact people at this level," said Head Coach
Jeremy Sheetinger. "NAIA Ball's podcast highlights all of the dedicated NAIA coaches and players and connects our schools. I love that GGC continues to honor Cody and what he started. NAIA Ball continues to flourish and is a great legacy of Cody's love for NAIA baseball."
On the field, the Grizzlies used a pair of big innings to win both games.
Junior
Tyler M. Martin connected on a two-run homer over the right field fence during the third inning to provide the hosts with a 7-4 lead against Spartanburg Methodist. Junior

"I love the fact that the smallest player on the field (the 5-foot-5 Meguiar) surrounded by big men has been an absolute linchpin to our success over the last four years. It couldn't happen to a better person and a more special player," said Sheetinger. "I am so proud of what he has accomplished in our jersey. He has left his legacy on this program in so many ways. The national record is indicative of his impact."
Quelch scored four runs against Carolina and went 2-for-4, with three RBI, at the plate. Pohlman collected three hits and drove in three runs in the nightcap.

Jeremy Sheetinger.
