Baseball Opens Final Weekend Series with Two Wins in Boston

The No. 2-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College baseball team tallied 28 runs while picking up victories by 13-3 and 15-0 scores against Fisher College (Massachusetts) on Friday afternoon in Boston.

The Grizzlies (44-4; winners of nine straight games) scored in six of their seven offensive innings of the opener. Then, the team used a seven-run fourth inning and a six-run fifth frame to complete the doubleheader sweep.

Senior Scott Seeker connected on a two-run homer in the opening frame. He later added a run-scoring single to extend the lead to 4-1 in the top of the third inning. Junior Tyler M. Martin drove in two runs with a double to left field. Senior Kyle Norton followed with a two-run single as the visitors plated five runs in the frame.

Junior Grant Pohlman tallied a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to give GGC a 9-3 advantage. Earlier, he drove in a run with a single in the second inning.

Senior Braxton Meguiar had a double that scored two runs to highlight the productive sixth inning.

Senior starting pitcher Ben Harris improved his record to 9-0 this season by striking out six batters across six innings.

In the second contest, Norton gave the Grizzlies a 3-0 lead with a two-run double during the fourth inning. Senior Jon Ponder followed with a sacrifice fly and two additional runs came around to score following a throwing error by the Falcons (24-21).
Harrell huddle
One inning later, Ponder hit a two-run home run over the left-center field fence to stretch the visitors' lead to 10-0. Junior Alex Harrell collected an RBI triple before senior Zayd Brannigan lined a run-scoring double to cap the six-run frame.

Senior Sam Seeker hit a two-run double to left-center field during the sixth inning.

Senior starting pitcher Anthony Patterson III was brilliant on the mound, allowing one hit and striking out seven batters across five innings. Junior Jake Finkelstein and senior Hunter Polley each tossed scoreless frames in relief to preserve GGC's fourth shutout of the season.

Meguiar went 3-for-3 in the second game of the day and tallied five hits in Friday's doubleheader. Harrell successfully stole four bases in the opener and registered multiple-hit performances in both games.

GGC is completing the 2025 regular season with a four-game weekend series against the Continental Athletic Conference opponent. Both teams have qualified for the CAC Championship tournament, being hosted by the Grizzlies on May 2-4 in Lawrenceville.

Coach's Corner
"We did an outstanding job of playing Grizzly baseball. We got two quality (pitching) starts and the team did an outstanding job of staying true to who we are and playing our brand of baseball. The second game gave us a chance to work on our toughness. I am proud of the group for how they responded and did exactly what we have been trained to do – push right through. Anthony (Patterson III) located multiple pitches and trusted the defense behind him," said Head Coach Jeremy Sheetinger.

Turning Point
The Grizzlies used a pair of big offensive outputs in the middle innings of the nightcap to break open a scoreless game. Senior Kyle Norton drove in a pair of runs with a double as part of a seven-run fourth inning. Classmate Jon Ponder added a sacrifice fly before two additional runs scored from a Fisher throwing error. GGC added six runs in the fifth inning, with Ponder having a two-run homer.
