Helping lead the nationally ranked Georgia Gwinnett College softball team to win all four games of its California road trip has led junior Savannah Jenkins and senior Kailynn James to earn the Continental Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week awards.

Jenkins, the Hitter of the Week, had a breakout week at the plate for the No. 8-ranked Grizzlies, batting .500 (6-for-12), driving in eight runs and scoring twice. The infielder hit a grand slam to give the team a 4-0 lead at No. 18 Hope International University (California) to complete a doubleheader sweep last Tuesday.

The next day, Jenkins went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the nightcap against CAC opponent Westcliff University (California).

This season, the Salem, Alabama, native is hitting at a .319 clip, with a team-best three homers and second-best 24 RBI.

James, the Pitcher of the Week, threw her first career perfect game, striking out seven batters against Westcliff last Wednesday. She went 2-0 with a 0.75 earned run average for the week.

The right hander also picked up a victory in the opening game of the Hope International doubleheader sweep.

The Bethlehem, Georgia, native stands 12-3, with a 1.02 earned run average, in 18 appearances in the pitching circle. She has tossed eight complete games and started 12 games. James has recorded 96 strikeouts.

Georgia Gwinnett College (33-8) is scheduled to host No. 4 University of the Cumberlands (Kentucky) on Wednesday, April 16, at the Grizzly Softball Complex, starting at 2 p.m. Then, the Grizzlies will host Thomas University (Georgia) on Friday, April 18, beginning at 4 p.m.
