The Georgia Gwinnett College men's basketball team extended its winning streak to four straight games with a 78-74 victory at Reinhardt University on Wednesday night in Waleska, Georgia.
Senior
Deonte' Martinez hit a layup with four seconds left to hold off a strong comeback effort by Reinhardt (0-7).
The Grizzlies (7-2) had built a 73-57 lead following a layup from junior
Devontre Chaney with 6:54 remaining in the game.
A pair of 3-point field goals from Khalil Cooke narrowed the gap to 12 points, at 75-63, with just over five minutes left. Another shot from behind the arc by Cooke trimmed the deficit to 76-68 about a minute later.
The Eagles got even closer, at 76-71, at the 3:26 mark following a 3-point play by Arael Jones. A layup from Jones with 54 seconds left made it a one-possession game, at 76-74.

With a three second differential between the game clock and shot clock, the Grizzlies utilized a time out for Head Coach
Chase Teichmann to draw up a late-game situation. Reinhardt elected not to commit a personal foul, allowing GGC to use most of the remaining seconds before Martinez made his game-sealing layup with four seconds left on the clock.
GGC overcame a slow start, trailing 25-17, with 7:46 left in the first half. Connecting on four 3-pointers, the team closed out the half strong to take a 38-37 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Junior
Brasen James led GGC with 20 points and was 7-of-10 from the free throw line. Chaney tallied 18 points and senior
Drew Kramer added 11 points in the victory.
The Grizzlies shot 50 percent from the floor and each team committed 10 turnovers.
Coach's Corner
"We did enough to win. We had good looks, but the shots didn't fall tonight and that's going to happen over the course of a long season. At the end of the game, we executed a situation where we used some clock (with a three second differential between game and shot clock) and got a layup from Deonte' to give us a two-score lead," said Head Coach
Chase Teichmann.
Turning Point
Leading by two points late in the contest, the Grizzlies used some clock and executed an out-of-bounds play coming out of a timeout to seal the road victory. With a three second differential between the game clock and shot clock, GGC elected to wait until late in the possession to get into its offensive set. Senior
Deonte' Martinez received a pass on a back cut play down the baseline to score a layup that gave the team a 78-74 lead with four seconds remaining.
